Good morning. We are in the times of Greece Panic Part 2. This will settle down as it has in the past. I want to avoid any stocks with a strong correlation to Greece. In this issue I cover Cable One, a recent spinoff as of last week. I am trying to remove any stocks with risk to Greece, higher interest rates, and out-of-favor sectors. I prefer to think of this newsletter as an income-focused, capital gain appreciation via special situation.... (more)

Good morning. The market has clearly defined winners from losers. Stocks are severely beaten down with a quarterly miss. Interest rates are rattling equities if a higher interest rate implies lower earnings. At this pace, we are only expecting a 25 basis point increase in the fall. This week I examine Yahoo/Alibaba and Interactive Brokers. ... (more)

Good Morning. For the 4-past weeks, I have debated which way the 10-Year Treasury Bond would move. In addition I have debated which way WTI oil will move. I have the same point of reference I did when I started the discovery process 1-month ago. I simply do not know. I have come full circle and believe interest rates are likely to move higher in the next year. I can eliminate equities that have a negative correlation to the movement of the rise in the interest rates. ... (more)

Good morning, The markets continue to rise. Our portfolio’s income holdings are strong with numerous names with high yields. A key goal is to find, research, and buy growth names for the portfolio. I want to have a balanced portfolio with growth, dividend growth, and special situations. This week I highlight Verizon $VZ. Verizon purchased AOL and the company has growth attributes that were absent a few weeks ago. ... (more)

20-Apr-2015 DividendLab Newsletter

By Todd Johnson on 20-Apr-2015 3:47 am (2 years ago)Retirement Newsletter, ,
Good morning. Markets were in an up and down mood this past week, unwilling to cede gains and itching to go higher. The S&P 500 index gained 1.7% in the week to close at 2,102.06. A weak jobs report and a $3 jump in oil prices sent markets higher on Monday, in anticipation of a pushback in interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve which was further reinforced by comments from William C. Dudley, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Bond prices rose as yields dropped.... (more)

Asia, as of Sunday night shows equities and oil trading lower. In this issue I cover Amgen $AMGN with a solid dividend. There is likely one IPO I want to add this week to the portfolio. Good morning. The Federal Reserve talk gave investors an impression of lower interest rates. The 10-Year rate fell below 2.0%. This was due to weak economic global output. I’ll try to address few key points; add a few positions; and make the portfolio stronger based upon what we know. This week I focus upon Illumina $ILMN.... (more)

Good morning, Sectors I prefer to invest today: The IT Security sector is, in the long run, a mandatory need by all businesses. Palo Alto Networks (PANW) is a leading entity within this growing field. A business with weak currencies will have products that cost less for importing countries. Europe, including Greece, will benefit if their currency is zero or negative. ... (more)
