Hello, I believe an investor learns a few key attributes for individual success. If a stock has all the positive attributes priced in, then the stock is typically fairly priced. This is common for larger cap names. Berkshire Hathaway (Brk/A or B) is an example. Buffett previously would not invest in technological names. Apple (AAPL) is now a key holding. ... (more)

Hello all, The equity markets have, in general, gone up since the U.S. Presidential election. On the morning of election-day, Madame Secretary Clinton had a 93% chance of winning the U.S. Presidency. The perception of Mr. Trump winning the President-Elect simply was not expected. Today investors or traders, whom assumed a Ms. Clinton President-Elect victory outcome, need to reverse some equity and/or commodity positions. ... (more)

Equities in general have increased with the assumption of an improved economy to follow with Trump’s victory. Economic data is improving at the present time. I discuss Nucor (NU) this week. Nucor is a company that is expected to benefit as President Obama leaves office. Trump is expected to use Nucor in many projects. ... (more)

Good morning. The weekend has remained focused upon the review of Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s emails. Hillary still retains an 80% - 90% chance of winning the election. If Hillary is elected as President, the FBI and DOJ could later cause Hillary to be removed from her Presidential position. I provide an update on the Yahoo situation: spinoff, valuation, and Alibaba/Yahoo Japan movement. ... (more)

Good morning. Politics is becoming more and more of directly related topic tied to investments. Russia’s Putin appears ready to help Syria’s forces against Assad. The U.S. is likely to take these individuals into U.S. as safe haven. The market is spooked by the Presidential election and if interest rates will rise. Good morning, The overall market is soft. Part of this is technical (charts) and a stronger dollar than recent months. We have some oil stocks that have outperformed since purchase. We don’t have oil stocks bought when oil was over $100. Buying oil stocks, watching oil go to $30, and sitting tight is a losing proposition. It’s equivalent to holding $EMES from $150 to $4. What is the point of buying a stock if everything points to a lower stock price? I try to answer that question with our positions. ... (more)

Cintas provides necessary, mundane products such as uniforms for the working class. ... (more)

26-Sep-2016 DividendLab Newsletter

By Todd Johnson on 26-Sep-2016 7:39 am (8 months ago)Retirement Newsletter
Hello, The market appears to have gained some steam. Ms. Yellen, and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), chose to not increase interest rates. The market does not like uncertainty. Interest rates explicitly assist in stock valuation. Overall stocks should decline if rates move higher. Bonds become more attractive as rates move higher. Bond valuations have an inverse relationship as interest rates move higher. This week I examine a conservative stock, sysco.com, with a focus upon dividend growth. ... (more)
